Autumn – Fall

At this time of year I always struggle with the signs of nature getting ready for winter. After more than 30 years living in Europe I am still overcome with a sense of sadness and melancholy as the green gives way to reds, oranges and yellows. I know it is the last burst of colours before everything turns to black and white.  In my art journal I tried to focus on the lovely shapes of the leaves and fruits.

I always have been anxious in autumn. May be it is because I hate anything linked with Death and for me Winter is one form of death though I know that bulbs are living under the ground ready to blow up at soon as the sun comes back. I remember people speaking emotionally about the long walk in forests, the dead leaves on the floor which make a lot of cracking sounds when you walk on, the strong smell of mushrooms, the bunch of branches with vibrant coloured leaves which you can’t keep home. It is as if Autumn was preparing the coming season where all the plants will remain anonymous without their leaves. Except the firs, of course which stays proudly green but always prickling and dark. After all it is considered as the king of the forest. I agree but a little bit of a dictator who likes to use the shining of the coming snow to value itself. But wait, spring will come and the fresh reen of the trees will attract the eyes again.!
